Wolverine and the X-Men 1x01: Hindsight Part 1

Before diving back into the Doctor Who Epic Watch, I feel like I should brush up a bit with a new (for me) series review, so how about Wolverine and the X-Men

We start off right in the middle of a Danger room session with Shadowcat, Colossus, and Nightcrawler. They each get a moment to shine before the difficulty increases to catch them all, it turns out to be the work of Logan, as a going away present of sorts, he's heading out on his own for a while. We meet Jean and Scott while they're fighting, say hi to Beast, then have a moment with Rogue. She doesn't want Logan to go, and runs off herself. As Logan heads to say goodbye to Xavier and Storm, Xavier and Jean both get splitting headaches. As Logan runs to Charles, he wakes up some time later.

Logan's on the road, and happens across a RV wreck with a little girl caught inside. He saves her by shielding her under his body as the RV explodes. While the daughter seems fine, i suspect she should have some pretty serious injuries, Logan's unconscious when they find them, lying down on top of the little girl, his weight on it's own would not make it comfortable for her however long they were like that, but add in the Adamantium skeleton, she should have several broken bones I think.

One of the other motorists calls the 'MRD' on Logan as he's lying unconscious, but the parents of the girl he saved take him away with another couple. While Logan is recovering we pick up in his memory, running to Charles there's a big explosion, the mansion is destroyed, and in the center of a crater is Xavier's empty wheelchair.

Logan wakes up in the home of the family he helped, just in time for the MRD to come calling. Fortunately he brought his yellow spandex, so when it looks like the family is going to be arrested, he can spring into action and attack the MRD. It doesn't go well though, the family is taken away in a helicopter to a MRD jail, filled with an assortment of other mutants for questioning.

Logan decides to return to the ruins of the X-Mansion, Beast is still there, toiling away in the basement lab. Beast's been trying to find answers on what happened in the explosion. Logan asks Beast for help getting the family out of the MRD jail.

Logan's seen Star Wars, so he uses the old trick of dressing up as an MRD guard and putting Beast in cuffs to get into the detention block, even calling Beast 'Chewie' in case you weren't sure where he got the idea. Once inside they give up on stealth and punch their way to victory, rescuing the family as well as some other mutant prisoners.

After saying so long to the family, Logan heads back to the X-Mansion and Beast, and tells him that it's time to get the band back together.

A pretty solid first outing for this iteration of the X-Men, we meet many of the key players, get a mystery with the explosion, and a threat with the MRD. I liked the Genosha billboard with Magneto on it, I'm sure he will show up, but i'm also glad he won't be the sole villain. Another touch I liked was that the family Logan helped was mixed, white mom, black dad, mixed daughter. There was never any mention of it specifically, but you see in the Dad's face sometimes, that he had probably endured some persecution for marrying a white woman, and that he's someone who would have helped Logan even if Logan didn't save his daughter. I am concerned with the MRD though, and hope they get some sentinels right quick. This again has the problem of 'it's a cartoon, you can't show bloody decapitations and disemboweling' which is of course, exactly what you want to see when wolvie gets a fightin,  even if it is  to robots so the censors don't flip.
