It's A Trap: Saw Rewatch Part 4

We're more than halfway done now, while not the best of the sequels, i don't think it was the worst, click through for review and score
So saw 4 starts sometime during or after saw 5, with john kramer's autopsy. They find the tape he covered in wax and swallowed, with a message for detective Hoffman telling him he will be tested and the game isn't over. Most of the movie follows swat commander rigg as he's tested to see the world through the eyes of jigsaw, and recover long missing detective matthews and newly missing detective hoffman. their being watched over by lawyer art blanc, who is also a pawn of jigsaws. rigg is being pursued by a couple of fbi agents who have been brought in to help stop jigsaw. rigg goes through his tests and fails at the end, resulting in the deaths of himself, the lawyer and detective matthews, FBI agent strhaum shows up just after the climax of saw 3 to shoot jeff, who just wants his daughter, and get himself trapped in jigsaws sick room but jigsaws secret accomplice, detective hoffman.

while some of the traps were cool, and i liked the idea of this movie happening concurrently with 3, it just felt a bit flat for me. i didn't like losing jeff so quickly, i thought there was more potential for him go through a series of tasks like rigg did, and get his daughter back, rather than get shot within a few seconds of seeing him again. i don't remember if it was this, or 5, or both, but another problem i had when i first saw it was i thought hoffman and strhaum looked too similar, and with how flashbacks were used and whatnot it was hard to keep track of who was who, especially since hoffman wasn't really featured much before this.

I've never really cared for hoffman's jigsaw, as well see in five, he was originally motivated by revenge, and never cared about rehabilitating people as much as killing them, which was something i always liked about kramer's jigsaw, that as twisted as he was, he was really trying to help these people.

I didn't like kramers new backstory either in that regard, seeing him starting with the person responsible for the death of his unborn child, showing that he had that spirit of vengeance about him, i didn't feel like that was consistent with the earlier movies.

I'd say this one is worth a rent if you've liked them so far, here's the score
