Oh Yes, There Will Be Blood: Saw Rewatch Part 2

Look closer, the review is right before your eye.

Starting the second installment of the SAW franchise, the first of three directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. Starts off with the Venus Fly Trap (above) which I believe was a response to the popularity of the reverse bear trap from the first. This film really expands on the world established in the first, while Donnie Whalbergs Detective Matthews is a new addition, as well as Lyriq Bent as Rigg (who we'll see more of later) we get the return of Dina Meyer as Kerry, Shawnee Smith as Amanda, the great Tobin Bell as Jigsaw, and of course, Billy The Puppet gets a lot more screentime. Jigsaw is captured almost immediately, and snares Detective Matthews in a game of his own. With his son captive and participating in a game of his own, if he sits and talks to jigsaw for the next two hours his son will be returned to him, right now his son is in a 'safe' place.

I think the real standout of this installment is Shawnee Smith as Amanda, planted in the house by jigsaw to keep Daniel Matthews safe throughout the game, we spend the movie thinking she's as much a test subject as the rest of them, it isn't until the end that we see she's become jigaws apprentice after passing his first test, she plays it with just the right amount of crazy to sell everyone on her being a victem, although in the rewatch, knowing that shes playing for the other team makes perfect sense. Also the finale back in the bathroom was a great way to tie it back into the first, while letting it stand on it's own for most of the movie.
